You’ve already tried some of the current popular diets. And then there’s the “7 tips for a healthier you” plan you found at the check-out stand. These approaches probably worked for awhile, but then you found yourself right back where you started, only now you’re feeling a little more discouraged. Or, worse, you’re feeling like there’s no use in trying and resigned yourself to following your indulgences because “it doesn’t mattter anyway”.
These strategies can give you temporary results. But they can’t give you real and lasting change for the better because they all lack one vital ingredient for a balanced, wholesome life….spiritual alignment. You’re confused about what to eat because you need clarity about what you want most. And I’m not talking about the difference between chocolate cake and carrot sticks.
I mean there are different parts of yourself that are not on the same page. Don’t you feel sometimes like you’re at war with yourself? Your “ego-self”, the part of you that wants to indulge at every turn, wants it and right now! But your “soul” wants to do the right thing. These are genuine needs that everybody has, and to satisfy both you need to access the inner wisdom that lives deep in your heart. Only then can you have real peace of mind with your diet and your body.
To leave the dinner table feeling like you had your cake and got to eat it too, you’ll need these things:
Recognition: Knowing you’re having a craving is the easy part. And yet you have to be able to connect that craving to an event that is knocking you off your center. Everybody knows what that nagging feeling is, but unless you can connect that experience to the “trigger” that it’s connected to, you’ll always be in “reaction” mode.
Clarity: With clarity about your highest intention comes the flexibility to say “yes” to an indulgence without falling off the wagon. That’s important because the real choice isn’t between good food and bad food. The real choice is what outcome do you desire most. Attaining peak levels of health and energy is great for when you want to compete in the Olympics. For the rest of us, there is a healthy balance between taking care of our bodies and manifesting our life’s purpose.
Spiritual Alignment: Most people know when they’re having a craving to indulge their taste buds. And some are aware that there’s usually some stressful life event that preceded that craving. Fewer still are able to maintain thier spiritual center in the middle of the cravings and make a choice that creates balance between our need to enjoy ourselves and our need for wellness.
